At Dental Care of Boca Raton, we appreciate that all individuals, regardless of age or life stage, deserve and desire a complete, appealing, and healthy smile. Our team serves Southeast Florida with a transformative and incredibly versatile form of tooth replacement: dental implants. By supporting crowns, bridges, dentures, and other appliances or prostheses, implants naturally and effectively restore broken smiles for life — as long as patients maintain good professional care and oral hygiene at home.
Implants are designed to function as tooth roots. They are attached to the replacement teeth. Because they are uniquely designed (to mimic the structure of natural and healthy teeth), our patients derive many benefits from implant-supported teeth.
Traditionally, bridges and dentures were designed to replicate only the parts of the teeth that are visible in the smile: the crowns and gum tissue. They did not replicate the roots that are so integral to the stability, strength, natural feel, and function of real natural teeth. Many of the common concerns and problems associated with conventional dentures have to do with poor fit; these dentures tend to eventually slip around the mouth, as there is nothing in the jawbone to hold them in place. With teeth that are firmly anchored to the jawbone, Patients are finally able to enjoy natural and effortless function!
There are many different types of implant-supported teeth. Since there are so many options, all sorts of patients can experience the many benefits of implants! For instance, if you are missing one tooth, a single dental implant is surgically positioned in the jaw and attached to a crown to replace the tooth and fill in the space. If, however, you have more missing or irreparably damaged teeth, our talented dentists may discuss options such as implant-retained dental bridges and dentures.
Due to the considerable expertise and onsite capabilities at Dental Care of Boca Raton, you do not need to have one implant placed to support each tooth. With implant-supported overdentures and All-on-X dental implant systems, we can apply as few as 4 or 5 implants to hold all of the replacement teeth in the upper or as few as 2 for the lower jaw. This ability may help to minimize the number of implant sites, affecting both the investment and amount of treatment required for the patient.
We may even be able to “refit” your existing denture as a “hybrid” or “overdenture” supported by implants fixed securely in the jaw. In addition to promoting lasting natural function, implants help to keep the supportive bone in the jaw strong. Patients avoid destructive bone loss, which has traditionally plagued conventional dentures. As bone deteriorates in the jaw, conventional dentures do not fit as well as they did when first placed due to changes in the shape of the face. With implant systems, your teeth and appliances continue to conform well, as the bone and facial structure remain intact.
