The holidays are over, ornaments boxed up and stowed away, and we’ve had a chance to catch our breath. We can finally return to our routines and start to make plans for the new year. While your page through your calendar or planner, don’t forget a vital part of your yearly healthcare routines: regular dental visits. Think they’re optional? Read more to find out why they’re just as important as visiting your medical doctor.
Brushing and flossing are a great start, but here are a few reasons why visiting our office is so important:
- A professional cleaning removes bacteria, stains, plaque, tartar, particles, and other debris that your toothbrush and floss can’t handle. The longer these things sit on your teeth, the greater your chances of tooth decay and gum disease.
- Regular examinations can prevent gum disease and the progression of disease in those who have already been diagnosed. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss; if you want to keep your teeth, make an appointment to see one of our great hygienists!
- The more familiar we are with your mouth, the easier it is to detect abnormalities. If we see you once every two years, we don’t know if the bump on the inside of your cheek has changed or stayed the same. When you visit regularly, we can track the progress of suspicious spots, potentially catching oral cancers when they are most treatable.
- We can restore problems that you never knew you had. Only a professionally trained eye can tell that the dark spot on your molar is actually a tiny cavity. Seeing us as recommended will let us restore decayed teeth and other dental concerns before they cause you to experience pain.
Before life gets too busy, contact our office and schedule an appointment. Better yet, schedule both of your semi-annual appointments so they’re officially on the books. Time slips away all too quickly, don’t let your dental health slip away with it.
